Somerset Active Travel
About our active travel plans
In Somerset, we have ambitious aspirations for active travel improvements. Our vision is to see healthy and active communities, with a good-quality cycling and walking experience for all users. We want Somerset to be a County where everyone feels welcome and comfortable, whichever mode of transport they use.
However, in recent times we haven’t had the funding available to allow us to deliver our aspiration and active travel hasn’t had the priority it deserves. With central government’s current new emphasis on sustainable and active travel we are now taking this opportunity to bid for funds and invest in active travel across Somerset. In order to get this investment right it’s important we continue developing relationships with our stakeholders and communities and deliver and promote active travel together.

Cycle Lane Proposal
This is an example activity for demonstration purposes only. This site is operated by Delib Ltd and submitted responses will be discarded. We have been working hard to tranform our transport system into a more efficient and safer network for citizens, while also contributing to a reduction in pollution levels. Previous research has indicated that citizens often don't feel safe cycling around Arlen Hill due to high levels of congestion and very few designated cycle routes, we aim to...
Healthy Routes - Cycling
This is an example activity for demonstration purposes only. This site is operated by Delib Ltd and submitted responses will be discarded. The Healthy Streets Approach and the 10 Indicators of a Healthy Street were developed by Lucy Saunders, a specialist in public health and transport. These were first included in TfL policy in the first Health Action Plan in 2014 and TfL has been working on how to deliver this Approach in London. The Mayor expects the Healthy Streets Approach to be...

LCWIPs
Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) are focused 10-year plans for developing a cycling and walking network within a local area. We currently have 3 (for Bridgwater, Taunton and Yeovil) and further LCWIPs are being planned.
Local Transport Plan
Somerset Council is working on a new Local Transport Plan (LTP) which reflects concerns around climate change and poor connections between towns and villages, whilst ensuring that transport is accessible and safe for all.
A LTP is not about building new roads, it is about looking at the bigger picture and understanding how the residents of Somerset would like to travel over the next decade.
We want to write a LTP which is informed by the views of Somerset residents, especially young people, who will inherit the decisions we make today.
Modeshift Stars
We have teamed up with Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP) and Modeshift STARS to give all schools the opportunity to develop a School Travel Plan through the Modeshift STARS Education Accreditation Programme.
